About Mongoose
In 1974, BMX Products, Inc., later to be known as Mongoose Bicycles, launched from a humble garage. The first of its kind, the BMX bicycle was named after bicycle motocross and was designed to fit the needs of the rough-and-tumble dirt-racing pastime that took its toll on wheels and bicycles. The heavy-duty, one-piece cast-aluminum Mongoose Motomag wheel was soon born, and it was the first competition-ready BMX bicycle available. Skip Hess, while in Australia pursuing his motor sports passion, came into contact with a strange and unusual cat-size animal--the mongoose. Known for its passive nature while unprovoked, yet vicious and aggressive enough to kill a threatening Cobra twice its size, the Mongoose impressed Hess, who quickly registered the Mongoose trademark for his new bicycle racing frame.

The Expert BMX bicycle model, which is still a cornerstone of the Mongoose BMX line today, was introduced in 1980. Shortly after, Mongoose captured the first ever ABA National #1 Cruiser Title. Previously known for the 20-inch bicycle, this title signaled the re-direction of Mongoose bicycles to larger-wheeled, adult-sized models. Several years later, Mongoose continues to dominate the cruiser racing circuit with six National No. 1 Cruiser titles, leading to the introduction of adult-sized Mongoose all-terrain bicycles (ATBs).

In 1992, Mongoose pioneered the full-suspension market with the introduction of the Amplifier. This design is still the most-copied suspension design in the market. Several year later, Mongoose launched the Newman adult bicycle frame, which is proven to be 15% stronger than any other bike frame in the market. The design, while functionally sound, also raised eyebrows because of its distinctive look.

In the next few years, Mongoose increased its marketing focus to dominate the bicycle industry, and more important, extend beyond it. The Mongoose brand marketing initiative makes more than 100 million impressions. Mongoose's brand awareness increased by over 130% in 1999 and solidifies the No. 2 market share position in units and dollars. Mongoose was acquired by Pacific Cycle, LLC, and continues to grow and prosper with more than 40 models of BMX, mountain, trail, freestyle, jumping, comfort, road, and cyclocross bikes.

Mongoose Pizazz Girl's bike

by Brian Tomes 2009-04-03, 7 people found this review helpful
The bike is very durable, easy to maneuver, and to assemble. The only flaws I find is that the hand brake is extremely hard to squeeze (I'm her dad and it takes a lot of effort for me!). The default pedal brakes are sufficient and my 5 year old quickly figured out how to brake by reversing the direction of her peddling. The other downside is its weight. I'd say easily 50 pounds of solid metal which is about the same weight of my adult graphite bike. But again, you are getting something very durable.

Reviewing the Bike, not the shipping- Excellent First Bike

by Mama1011 2009-12-20, 6 people found this review helpful
First, I'd like to urge fellow reviewers to rate products based on the product, not on the seller, price, or shipping. Each of those problems can be addressed within the review or to the specific party involved, but it tells nothing about the product and giving a rating considering these factors doesn't give an accurate account of the ITEM, which is what the rating is supposed to address. That being said, i bought this bike for my 4 year old. It doesn't come with a kickstand, which isn't a big deal at the present because she needs the training wheels. Kickstands are easy to find, but I would prefer having one in the box. The bike is beautiful and durable. It was fairly easy to assemble and like all children's bikes, it is a bit hefty with a shipping weight of 30 pounds. A bike for a 3-6 year favors sturdiness over speed. My daughter loves it. I will agree with other reviewers about the hand brake (caliper) being stiff and difficult for a child to operate. Overall, I would recommend this bike to the value conscious parent and especially those tired of pink. The details are perfectly girly without being frilly and make this bike stand out and up long after "bratz," "barbie," "my little pony," and "princess" bikes lose their appeal.

About Shipping: I bought this bike from Amazon and, admittedly, I made them send a replacement because the first bike was scratched and dirty. the box looked as if it had been thrown from plane, train, and truck. I gave Amazon a bit of a tongue lashing concerning the condition in which a child's product, excuse me, any product, should be shipped in to maintain a buyer's loyalty. In the end, problem solved. My review is not colored by price or shipping issues because neither is directly attributable to the product itself.

Great bike!

We purchased this bike for my daughter's 3rd birthday. It is an adorable bike. My husband assembeled it in well under a half an hour. The only thing I don't like about it is the hand brake. I wish it didn't have one.

Believe the reviews,do not buy this bike on-line!

by Marc Israel 2010-06-17, 1 people found this review helpful
Everyone reading this is trying to do something special for a child. The truth is, you are only delaying your ideal by purchasing this bike on-line.

I read the reviews and thought "the reviewers aren't capable of figuring basic things out and whining about shipping boxes. It's the materials that count!"

Materials do count and ours drastically didn't fit! The front fork of the bike would not fit on the front tire axle. It wasn't even close by over an inch! Shame on those sending a pile of parts that could never equal an assembled bike. What's worse, is that I thought that I was smarter and more capable than those other reviewers to whom I slurred while waiting for delivery.

One day before our daughters' birthday, the bike parts arrived. I rushed home with anticipation, and now want to share my dissappointing experiemce with anyone who also thinks a bike is something you should buy on-line. The directions were embarrassingly not helpful and we accomplished all but the front perfectly within 30 minutes....... but...

Note: I did not seek this link out to lodge a complaint.
Amazon wrote to my wife for her review and now I'm typing away to warn you... step away from the BUY ME button!!!!!

The good news? Our money was returned promptly once parts were received back. I guess they knew...

Great bike with the right touch of "girly"

by SpecOpsSpouse 2009-09-11, 1 people found this review helpful
This is a great quality bike for the price and has taken some heavy abuse from our 4 year old daughter. I love that the handle bar height and angle, seat height and training wheels can all be adjusted for a perfect fit today and in the coming years. We especially love the color combination since it can be so hard to buy anything for little girls that is not pink!

We purchased this item from Amazon and not an authorized seller and selected super saver shipping. It arrived in 3 days from FedEx, but there was some damage to the box. No major injuries to the bike, but some of the stickers were heavily scratched.

Overall, we are very happy with this purchase. It is a good quality bike that will last for years.

Great kids bike.

This bike is great. My daughter loved it. If it came with a bell and streamers it would have been perfect! The directions and assembly left a little to be desired but nothing huge.

The worst assembly ever

by J. Baeza 2009-12-27, 0 people found this review helpful
This is a very cute bike with the WORST ASSEMBLY PROBLEMS EVER!!! I ordered a different bike for my other daughter that we put together in 20 minutes. This took over an hour and a half and required bending of the bike to make the front wheels fit. The assembly instructions were unclear at best. I would NOT recommend this bike for anyone. You can get a bike just as good without the headache.

Poor Quality

by Michael 2009-12-21, 0 people found this review helpful
The bike arrived very quickly but was damaged. The box was torn up and had a hole in it. After removing the contents from the box assembly was difficult. The manual included was not for the bike being assembled they were fro generic Mongoose bikes and offered little help. Finally, after many hours trying to align the rear wheel I realized it was not out of alignment but was not balanced. It is a plastic rim so it was hard to tell, but the rim was warped. So I am returning the bike and purchasing one from a local store pre-assembled.

Nice little bike; Problem with shipper

by Tanya D. Brady 2009-12-14, 0 people found this review helpful
We just received this Mongoose Pizazz for our 3 year old. Despite the reviews about terrible shipping, I ordered because the price is right and I feel good about the Mongoose product. I held my breath. Sure enough, the package arrived ripped to shreds, no padding. Luckily, the bike itself seems to have made it through intact.

Looking forward to setting it up, though I don't anticipate any problems. Will update my review if there's more to report.

I wish Amazon would heed the problems with shipment of this product and remedy the matter. You're definitely taking your chances with shipping if you order this bike.
